CarX Drift Racing Online is something we can't get enough of! One of the few custom drifters available on console right now is this arcade racer. This game, which originally appeared on mobile devices, has since been released on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

CarX Drift is playable on the PS5, even though it isn't available as a custom PS5 game. Gamers can download CarX on their PS4 and use this functionality to play on next-gen thanks to the PS5's backwards compatibility.

However, there is a catch. Since this is a PS4 game, it won't play as smoothly or with as much clarity as a PS5 title. According to the Sony website, several game functionality will be removed while using backwards compatibility. Therefore, it is recommended that you play CarX on your PS4 rather than your PS5.
Will CarX be available for next-generation?
The growth in popularity of CarX Drift Racing Online is nothing short of amazing. In 2017, what started as a mobile game quickly expanded to Steam for PC users. Since then, CarX has also been made available for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

There are no official intentions to release CarX as a custom game for next-generation consoles as of the time of writing. However, CarX Technologies will want to make their game available on the next-gen consoles when the player bases of the Xbox Series X and PS5 grow.
CarX will be able to potentially release a sequel to CarX Drift Racing Online for next-gen instead of just transferring the original game because they will have more time to develop it.
